Stone Mtn, GA – Woman Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on US-78

Stone Mountain, GA (January 13, 2022) – On Tuesday, January 13, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash in Stone Mountain.

DeKalb County Police confirmed that the accident happened on US-78 around the area of Mountain Industrial. A 46-year-old woman was initially a passenger in a vehicle when she suddenly got out of the vehicle she was in. She got out in the eastbound lanes of traffic and was fatally struck by a passenger vehicle traveling in the area. The driver of the vehicle immediately came to a stop and remained at the scene.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. It is not believed that anybody else was injured in the collision.

Due to the severity of the accident, all lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
